All training must be documented.
Instructors must provide course outlines.
Proof of successful completion must be maintained in appropriate files.
Minimum training requirements should include
electrical safety awareness;
electrical safety theory;
applicable codes, DOE orders, regulations, and standards;
demonstrations and hands-on practice;
use and care of personal protective equipment;
job-specific safe electrical work practices; and
electrical requirements of safe operating procedures and operating procedures.
Personnel working with high voltage (greater than 600 V) must have specialized electrical
awareness training.
Periodic training refresher courses are required to maintain and update skills and code
requirements.
Management and supervision who oversee electrical work must have completed Electrical
Safety Awareness Training at a level commensurate with the level of work being performed.
5.4 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Performance Objective:
Provide personal protective equipment for electrical work. Establish documented procedures for
its use, care, maintenance, and testing. [Guidance for these procedures can be found in 29 CFR
1910.137 and 29 CFR 1910.268(f).]
Managers shall ensure that adequate resources are available to provide personal protective
equipment in compliance with applicable codes and standards. In addition, they shall ensure
that:
personnel are trained in its use in accordance with documented procedures;
procedures are established and implemented for documented controls of protective
equipment such as inventory, storage, maintenance, and testing;
protective equipment requirements and usages are specified in the safe operating
procedures;
protective equipment is inspected prior to each use;
