8.7 General Guidance
The plan must describe means for providing technical
information to assist physicians and nurses providing
emergency treatment to individuals who may have been
exposed to hazardous chemicals.
Information must be provided when a physician or
nurse (onsite or offsite) determines that a medical
emergency exists, that the patient has been exposed
to a hazardous chemical, and that information about
the chemical will assist in diagnosis or treatment of

specific identity, if known, of the chemical, and a
copy of the MSDS.
b. The plan should provide that any emergency response
personnel who exhibit signs or symptoms which may
have resulted from exposure to hazardous substances
during the course of an emergency incident, either
immediately or subsequently, should be provided with
medical consultation as soon as possible. Follow-up
consultations should be provided if determined medically
necessary by the examining physician.
