Student's Guide

of contamination, cleanup time, and
decontamination costs. These measures
help maintain doses ALARA. In addition,
they can reduce the need for respirators and
the impact on work in nearby areas.
Engineered controls should be used in
accordance with technical instructions,
proper training, and effective administrative
controls
Site-specific manuals should contain generic
instructions on the design, controls, training,
and use of engineered controls.
2. Administrative controls, including access
restrictions and the use of specific work
practices designed to minimize airborne
contamination, should be used as the
secondary method to minimize worker
internal dose.
