K. Subpart K - Design and Control
Subpart K addresses added emphasis on facility
and equipment design and administrative
controls to maintain radiological exposures
ALARA.
1. Facility design and modifications (10 CFR
835.1001)
During the design of new facilities or
modification of old facilities, the following
objectives shall be adopted:
Optimal methods shall be used to assure
ALARA
Maintain exposure levels below an
average of 0.5 mrem/hr
Avoid release of radioactivity to the
workplace atmosphere
The design or modification of a facility and
the selection of materials shall include
features that facilitate operations,
maintenance, decontamination, and
decommissioning
