FUNCTIONAL AREAS FOR DOE TECHNICAL STANDARDS

Functional

Description

Area Code

SANS

Safeguards and Security Provisions to protect DOE interests against

external threats that may have an adverse impact on national security,

employees, the public, or the environment. This area includes provisions for:

(1) protection of operations programs, (2) physical, personnel,

communications, and information security, and, (3) nuclear material control

and accountability for DOE facilities.

SDMP

General Provisions for identifying program wide standardization documents

that do not belong in any other area. In addition to specifications, standards,

and handbooks, this classification includes manuals governing the DOE

Technical Standards Program.

TRNG

Training and Qualification Provisions to ensure adequate and effective

training and qualification of personnel involved in the operations of DOE

facilities and processes. This area may include training provided directly to,

or in support of, other functional areas. Also included are provisions for

establishing communication, coordination, and training interfaces with other

functional areas and off-site organizations or individuals who require access

to facilities.
