Enclosed (Encapsulated) Filters : A filter that is completely enclosed on all sides and
both faces except for reduced end connections or nipples for direct connection into a duct
system.
Nuclear Facility: A reactor or nonreactor nuclear facility where an activity is conducted for
or on behalf of DOE and includes any related area, structure, facility, or activity to the extent
necessary to ensure proper implementation of the requirements established by 10 CFR 830.
Penetration: The downstream test aerosol concentration, expressed as a percentage of the
upstream test aerosol concentration.
Qualification Test: A test, often destructive, of a prototype or randomly selected production
filter to establish its capability to meet certain functional and specification requirements. The
results of the test are considered to typify individual items or model numbers which are of the
same design and are manufactured by the same process.
Rated Airflow: The designated airflow capacity of a HEPA filter in ACFM.
