40 CFR PART 261

RCRA, in 40 CFR Part 261 Subpart C, defines general characteristics that, if exhibited by a waste

material, require the classification of that material as hazardous. These characteristics are:

Specific Waste Streams

In addition to defining the characteristics of hazardous wastes, 40 CFR Part 261 lists specific waste

streams that are considered hazardous. These lists are compiled in tables in Subpart D according to:

Hazardous waste from nonspecific.

2.2

Hazardous waste from specific sources.

2.3

Discarded commercial chemical products, off-specification species, and container and spill

residues.
