Unattended Installation.
An unattended installation consists of
equipment designed and manufactured for a
specific purpose and does not require
personnel in attendance for its operation.
Steps must be taken to ensure that the dose
to personnel is less than 100 mrem/year.
However, a short term limit of 2 mrem/hour
may be used provided the expected dose to
personnel is less than 100 mrem/year.

Open Installation.

An open installation has X-ray paths that
are not enclosed. An example would be a
portable X-ray machine outdoors in an
emergency response situation, with the X-
ray tube not enclosed inside a shielded
room. This class is acceptable for use only
if operational requirements prevent the use
