JOB FAMILIARIZATION
B.1 Job Familiarization
Time spent in various facilities and in facility work spaces improves job performance by adding
perspective about other organizations. In addition, the supervisor trainee can use this time for
the development of a personal philosophy consistent with the facility's philosophy. Management
should arrange for such visits and discussions to familiarize the candidate or incumbent with
responsibilities and support functions in various areas.
These visits and discussions should be structured using established objectives such as the
following:

Nuclear safety, facility reliability, and efficiency of
Facility Philosophy and
manager's facility
Commitments Regarding
Standards of quality
Operational Safety and
Defense-in-depth concept (e.g., quality maintenance

enables the facility to be operated safely and reliably)
Maintenance impact on safety and control functions
Resource commitments
Reporting of facility problems, including technical safety
requirement violations
Radiation safety and industrial safety
