Review (reading and self-study) and discuss with the operations
manager and experienced shift supervisor those expectations and
facility policies governing the following:
C self-checking
C peer checking
C independent verification
C verbal communications
C procedure use and compliance
C limitations of activities or distractions during critical evolutions
within the control room and in the field
C ensuring against concurrent conflicting activities
C supervisory oversight during critical evolutions
C pressures (perceived or actual) to complete tasks quickly
C equipment and component labeling
C pre-evolution briefings and preparations
C assignment of tasks to qualified individuals
C oversight of trainees.
Emphasize responsibilities of the shift supervisor in ensuring the
understanding and compliance of these policies and expectations
through consistent reinforcement to personnel. Also, stress the
importance of instilling a cautious, questioning approach within
themselves and crew personnel.
