Back-up personnel should stand by with equipment

(10) The Incident Commander should designate a safety
official, who is knowledgeable in the operations

hazards and to provide direction with respect to the
safety of operations for the emergency at hand.
(11) When activities are judged by the safety official to

be an Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health
(IDLH) condition and/or to involve an imminent
danger condition, the safety official should have
the authority to alter, suspend, or terminate those
activities. The safety official should immediately
inform the Incident Commander of any actions
needed to be taken to correct these hazards at an
