3. GENERAL GUIDANCE

The following paragraphs describe the appendices contained in this TSL.

3.1

DOE Technical Standards. Appendix A lists the DOE Technical Standards that

have been published by DOE as of November 30, 2002.

Non-Government Standards Adopted by DOE. Appendix B lists the NGSs

adopted for use by DOE through the reference of the standards in published DOE directives

(e.g, rules, orders, manuals, and guides). Some standards developed by non-Government

standards bodies are issued without a specific identification number. Unique numbers for

these documents will be identified through coordination with the NGSB, where possible, and

included in future editions of this TSL.

Other Government Documents. Appendix C lists other Government documents

identified in published DOE directives that are referenced and used in a manner similar to

non-Government standards and DOE Technical Standards. The listing of these documents

in DOE directives serves to record DOE's interest in the documents. Note that some

documents are listed without an identifying number. Unique numbers for these documents

will be identified, where possible, and included in future editions of this TSL.

Canceled DOE Standards. Appendix D lists DOE Technical Standards that were

previously developed but have subsequently been canceled. These documents were either

replaced by other technical standards (such as NGSs in some cases) or discontinued

because they were no longer needed by DOE. Copies of these documents may be obtained

Consortia standards. Appendix E lists technical standards developed by industry

organizations (i.e., consortia) that have been adopted for use by DOE in its business

practices. The tracking of the use of consortia standards by DOE and other Federal

agencies was requested by the Interagency Committee on Standards Policy. The listing of
