Student's Guide
II.
MODULE 102 - PRODUCTION OF X-RAYS
A.
OBJECTIVES
i.
Module Objective.
Upon completion of this unit, the participants should understand what X-rays are and
how they are produced so that the participants will be able to work around them safely.
ii.
Objectives.
Following self-study and/or classroom review, the participants will be able to:
1.
Define the types of electromagnetic radiation.
2.
Describe the difference between X-rays and gamma rays.
3.
Identify how X-rays are produced.
4.
Define bremsstrahlung and characteristic X-rays.
5.
Describe how X-ray tube voltage and current affect photon energy and power.
6.
Explain how X-rays interact with matter.
7.
Identify how energy relates to radiation dose.
8.
Discuss the effects of voltage, current, and filtration on X-rays.
