Student's Guide
I.
Introduction
Self assessment is part of an effective worker health
and safety program. As such, there are many
requirements related to conducting self
assessments and maintaining quality assurance
programs, such as those required under 10 CFR
830.120 ,or as part of an effective Integrated Safety
Management program. This module focuses on the
radiation protection required assessments and
audits.
10 CFR Part 835, Occupational Radiation
Protection, requires, in 10 CFR 835.102, that
internal audits of the Radiation Protection Program
be conducted at least every 36 months. The audits
shall include all radiation protection functional
elements.
Section 4.1.4 of DOE G441.1-1, Management and
Administration of Radiation Protection Programs
Guide, provides guidance on meeting the 10 CFR
835 requirement for audits. Section 4.2 of the
Guide includes a listing of radiation protection
functional elements and associated DOE guidance
documents.
Article 134 of DOE-STD-1098-99, Radiological
Control, provides additional guidance on
radiological control assessments.
