than 92 (uranium). [DOE O 6430.1A]
633.
TRU WASTE. Without regard to source or form, radioactive waste that, at the end of
institutional control periods, is contaminated with alpha-emitting TRU radionuclides with
half-lives greater than 20 years and concentrations greater than 100 nCi/g. [DOE O
6430.1A]
634.
TRANSURANIC WASTE. Transuranic waste is radioactive waste containing more than
100 nanocuries (3700 becquerel) of alpha-emitting transuranic isotopes per gram of
waste, with half-lives greater than 20 years, except for: (1) high-level radioactive waste,
(2) waste that the Secretary of Energy has determined, with the concurrence of the
Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, does not need the degree of
isolation required by the 40 CFR Part 191 disposal regulations; or (3) waste that the
Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved for disposal on a case-by-case basis in

surveillances are derived from and satisfy the purposes described in the safety analysis
report. [Richard Englehart, EH-31, Interpretation from DOE O 5480.22 (1999)]
636.
