10. Transportation and Traffic Management personnel shall demonstrate a working level
knowledge of the purpose and requirements of 49 CFR 173.400, Subpart I-Class 7
"(Radioactive) Materials," as it pertains to radiological controls.
Supporting Knowledge and/or Skills
a.
Discuss the DOT's objectives regarding the protection of the public and the
environment from radiation.
b.
Define the following terms:
Beta and gamma emitters
Contamination control
Fissile materials
Fixed contamination
Low toxicity alpha emitters
Non-fixed radioactive contamination
Radiation level
Radiation level limitations
Specific activity
c.
List and discuss the factors that must be considered pertaining to the release of
materials and equipment having radioactive material as outlined in 49 CFR 173.441
and 173.443, Subpart I--Class 7 "(Radioactive) Materials."
