Student's Guide
The sender's message is the focus of the
process. It must have an objective (i.e.,
deliver information, motivate, stimulate,
get/provide feedback). It must be concise,
logical, and clear.
2. Receiver's filters
Similar to the sender, the receiver has
his/her own filters that can also distort the
message.
3. Understanding the message
It is not the logic of the sender's message
that is important, but the logic of the
received message. The sender must
consider how his message will sound to
the receiver.
The accuracy of message interpretation
depends upon how well the sender
projects the intent, motivation, values, and
emotions of the message.
4. Medium
The medium used for communication can
definitely distort the message.
