The evaluation of each trainee should be conducted as the trainee either performs or simulates and
discusses the complete task. The perform option is preferred whenever practical. Evaluation
standards should be used to ensure consistency in evaluating performance tests. When the trainees
have completed fundamental training, they may be considered ready for individual task qualification.
5.4 Exceptions
Maintenance personnel may be excepted from training on the basis of their prior education,
experience, and/or training. Appropriate level management review of an individual's prior training
record and job performance history may provide the basis for this exception. Exceptions granted
and justification for the exception should be documented and included in the individual's training
record.
Tests may be provided to except newly hired, experienced personnel from specific training
requirements. When tests are used to establish the basis for an exception, the individual considered
for exception should pass examinations on the specific subject areas and demonstrate competency
in the skills areas. Exception from training requirements should not include exception from
successfully completing the required qualification examination(s).
